This or that?

Hi, I have a sentence which I'm debating with myself whether to tweak it or not.

'Whilst in mid-flight, I thought this was it, that I would really do it this time.'

I'm debating whether to put the word 'that' after 'thought'.

What do you think?

Thanks
Ryan

" "This is/was it" is an idiom. "That was it" is also an idiom. But the sense is different.

I would keep "this."

"This is/was it" is an idiom.

"That was it" is also an idiom. But the sense is different. You're describing what was in your mind at that time.

(This is not easy to explain.)

That was it! I'd had enough! This describes an ending.

This was it! It was going to work! This describes a beginning.
