This makes absolutely no sense to me

Please read the context below:
""Yes, ma'am," sighed Nancy, picking up the half-dried pitcher--now so
cold it must be rinsed again."

Why in the world does the pitcher being cold mean that it needs re-"rinsing"???
I mean if they needed it to be warmed then they should heat or something, why rinse it????
And why does a cleaned pitcher have to be warmed in the first place even???

It really baffles me.

This is about washing dishes. Presumably, Nancy was washing the pitcher with hot water, and somehow she got sidetracked, so the pitcher went cold before she could dry it properly. So now the pitcher is cold and not completely sud free.
