This is the first time + the present perfect

(a) This is the first time I have attended such an event.
(b) This is the first time I have ever attended such an event.

I'm pretty sure that (a) is correct, but how about (b)? Is it still acceptable? Or, does it sound very strange and unacceptable?

Strictly speaking it's redundant (the first time I have at any time attended), but it's quite common and natural to say it like that, probably based on the similar pattern the first time in 10 years I have attended.

Don't worry. It's not strange, and it's acceptable.
