This is the first time I saw a panda

I'd be happy if someone would answer my question. Thanks in advance.

Are the following 2 sentences used in the same situation / context?
Or is B the wrong sentence?

A: This is the first time I have ever seen a panda.

B: This is the first time I saw a panda.
