This is she vs. This is her

Which of the two should I use answering the telephone?

Also, what do you usually say when you answer the telephone?

"This is she/he." is the most grammatically correct, but it sounds extremely snooty. Say: "This is her/him."


In the US, you answer the phone with: "Hello."

Me too.

I assume you don't literally mean when answering the phone. That's "Hello".

If someone asks, "Can I speak to California Jim?" I answer "Speaking".
