My essay:
People’s opinions differ as to cultural traditions are whether protected or vandalized when it turns into tourism industry. In my opinion, although it has undoubtedly some disadvantages of using local culture as a money-making tool, several positive aspects can not be overshadowed.
To start with, it stands to reasons for people argue that money-spinning tourist attractions may spoil culture. First, local residents could lose their original features. Researchers point out by entertaining tourists, local people adapt tourists’ needs and attitudes, and that means they could adjust traditions to fit the taste of tourists from other countries so that they can satisfy tourists and increase their revenue. Second, many historical sites can be damaged to environment , because foreign travelers often use public transports or motorbikes to explore or take part in tourist activities, which increase the amount of gas emission and lead to traffic systems are always overcrowded. As a result, not only local inhabitants suffer a stressful life but also contributes to global warming.
On the other hand, by making cultural traditions become an activity for tourism, several advantages can be gained. First, it creates sufficient incentives for local communities to support conservation and protection. In some countries, many sites fall into disrepair because of lacking government support. Therefore, if local people want to save their cultural traditions, they have to appeal visitors by selling their famous items or organize appealing activities in order to make profits for restoration and protection efforts. Second, it create a collaboration between community members. Community participation strengthens communities and helps to create a sense of belonging, trust, and credibility among members. By involving local community members, tourism can become more authentic. The community and the tourists both benefit from community participation, as it boosts their respect for the traditional lifestyle and values of the destination community.
In conclusion, while cultural traditions will be ruined if they are applied for attracting visitors., it seems to me that utilizing cultural traditions in travelling industry is the better method to preserve these traditions.
