This is my study objective, Can all off people in this group help me?
Mathematic is very important subject, from kindergarten to bachelor study it. I’m very happy to be lecturer in education of mathematics. I see that some problems that existed are still problem now; and they have become even worse, while other new ones are emerging. There is a need to solve them.
There are five abilities in mathematics such as, reasoning mathematic, problem solving, representation of mathematic, communication of mathematic and connection of mathematic. Every abilities have level, teacher who teach mathematic must know standard and level it. Reasoning mathematic are one of the biggest problems, according to NCTM students in our country have low level in reasoning mathematics. There are four level in reasoning mathematics, and researches shows only 30% student in Indonesia can get high level. Teachers are not the expert in this field, so it is hard for teacher to inspire students, to explain the content obviously and to make them recognize the benefits of reasoning mathematics in real life.
Mathematics can easy if we can teach combine with ICT, because it makes simple and can grow up motivation of our students. ICT can increase reasoning mathematics ability, because students can try and try to be good problem solver from see the recorder of answer in worksheet. On one hand teacher in my hometown feel that it can waste of their time, because they have not basic knowledge teaching mathematics with ICT. I would like to see a change in this respect by teaching this subject, as it is the subject which I have had passion for and did best during my study, nevertheless, my current knowledge is limited. There for I would like to pursue a doctoral degree in EducationofMathematics to become specialist in Reasoning Mathematics and Teaching Mathematic with ICT. Thus, studying it will train me to become professional academic researcher.
Research is important not only to my institution but also to the Education Mathematic community in Indonesia. There have been a lot of problems in Mathematic teaching and learning discovered and addressed. I have already been involved in research on student in elementary in Indonesia with my lecturers when I was studying in bachelor and master, and do this research on student bachelor degree in my institute. And as this is the subject of my interest, I really want to go deeper into the research by upgrading my degree.
In doing the doctoral in Education of Mathematics, I would like to concentrate on reasoning mathematics and ICT. The implication of concept I can teach mathematics teacher how to improve their knowledge about reasoning mathematics and make fun teaching mathematics with ICT. Finally, I will be capable of pursuing my interest in “reasoning mathematics and ICT” research.
DAAD is the scholarship that can provides me a means of achieving my goal, for this scholarship program does not have bias in favor of any field of study. Furthermore, German would be an ideal place for me one of place where ICT has emerged and become highly develop. I would like a pioneer in reasoning mathematic and ICT in Mathematic and professional lecturer in teacher education.
