Being polite in Vietnamese Culture
It is effortless to be polite in Vietnam if you know some good manners and how to behave well around others in Vietnamese culture. Firstly, you should know to greet and talk to other people. In Vietnam, people usually say "hello" at the first meet. They do not shark hand and hug like foreigner except in the business. Besides, when you talk to people, you should know who you are talking with. For example, if they are older than you a little, you should call them brothers or sisters, and if they younger than you, you should talk lightly and do not be rude with them. Secondly, knowing good manners when eating is also polite. Respect is essential in Vietnam, so before your eating, you should invite the older people eating first and you eating after. For instance, in my family just consist of four people, they are my parents, my younger brother and I. So before every meals, I have to invite my parents eat first, after that we eat meals together. Finally, using one hand to give or receive gifts in Vietnam is impolite. Especially, when you give or receive any thing from older people, you have to use two hands. It is very popular in Tet holiday, children will receive a little money called lucky money from older people, and they always receive by two hands and say "thank you" and best wishes for them. Following these manners, you will be polite in Vietnamese culture.
