Essay & Composition Writing

This is my Ielts writing task 2. Could you please review it? Thank you so much.

In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations

People in developed nations are indeed expecting to live longer than ever before. While this trend can have some drawbacks I believe we can tackle all these problems.

The main problem of prolonging the lifespan of the elderly is that the health care system might be affected negatively. Older people are prone to several chronic diseases such as heart attacks or diabetes that demand special help. With these growing needs, the government has no choice but to invest a great amount of money to support these people that instead can be spent on other areas. Another challenge is that it puts a burden on the countries' economies. More older people mean that when they retire, the government must provide them the pension benefits so that they can survive. And since they do not work anymore, they do not need to pay income tax. With these two things together it demands the country to spend more while the? revenue keeps getting lower.

However, with the right measures, we can address the issues related to the growing life expectancy. The first solution is that wealthy countries should invest more in advanced technology in the healthcare industry so that senior people can cure their disease more effectively and in a much shorter time. Another measure would be to increase the retirement age if they are still in perfect health condition. And we can also encourage the old generation to save money early so that when they retire they can support themselves without much help from the authority.

In conclusion, for countries that are experiencing a growing humans lifespan, there might be a lot of challenges, but if the government and the citizens work together, these problems can definitely be solved.
