Task 1: The chart below gives information about the age of women in Australia when they give birth to their first child in 1966, 1986 and 2006
The bar chart shows the changes in woman's age when they bear their first child in 1966, 1986 and 2006.
It is clear that in 1966 and 1986, the majority of women in Australia had their first baby at a pretty young age. However, after 20 years it seems like they prefer to give birth to their firstborn later in their lives.
In 1966, the most common age group to had their first child for Australian women was 19-24 at 63%. Both the under 19 group and 25-30 group had relatively high proportions at 33% and 35% respectively. The other three groups had smaller proportions all under 10%. Twenty years later, the percentage of 25-30 group rose to 50% and became the most common age to give birth for the first time. The two youngest groups slightly decreased to 40% while the oldest group vaguely increased.
By 2006, the highest proportion belongs to the 30-34 at about 45%. The 25-30 group took second place with 38% followed by the two youngest groups. Meanwhile, there was a remarkable rise for the oldest groups, with the 34-39 group reached a new peak at 30%.
