The internet is a great source of information and has opened up opportunities for people to learn all over the world.
Is all information reliable on the internet?
What could be done to control information online?
Writing:
It is true that the internet is of invaluable use when it comes to finding information and providing educational opportunities to people around the globe.
Most information on the Internet is accurate and educative. For example, visiting TedEd on Youtube or reading the news on CNN can offer you information about different kinds of aspects, such as education and entertainment. But sometimes, the information you acquire can be misleading and erroneous. For instance, there are lots of posts on social media such as Facebook or Twitter that can cause extreme hatred and skepticism among the viewers. If not one but many believe the lies in those posts, there can be consequences regarding the country’s politics, media, and sometimes individual lives.
So how can we stop false information to spread or how to know if we are looking at the right one? On social media, there is a function called “report” in case we come across anything disturbing or unpleasant online. This function serves as a warning to the owners of the posts and if they continue to spread bad ideas, their account will be suspended. Another solution to this is teaching users to recognize and ignore any information that proves to be misleading. This can be done by adding a filter on social media or another function in which people are taught how to search for the right information.
Overall, the Internet is one of the greatest inventions man has ever created as it is helpful and informative. However, its drawbacks such as the spread of misleading information should not be ignored and need feasible solutions to control, two of which are reporting and filtering information.
