It sounds like you are trying very hard to be specific.

If you don't want to specify a particular message, just say:

This is an edited version of an earlier message (on the subject of ...).
This is an addendum to a previo

Well, when I said that I don't want to be that specific, I simply meant that I didn't want to say "dated" etc.
