There was once when we received a large number of customer complaints. This was kind of alarming.

1. Is it okay to say "this was" for the example above?
2. Or should I say either one of the following for the second sentence above?

a. This is kind of alarming.
b. That was kind of alarming.
c. That's kind of alarming.
d. It was kind of alarming.
e. It is kind of alarming.

3. Which would be natural as a second sentence of my paragraph?
