This group of words are annoying

This is definitely my current grammatical pet peeve:
"The pair are happy..."
"Best Western are looking for workers..."
"(Insert almost any band name) have good songs..."
"Investor group sell shares..." Just to name a few. It drives me up the wall. I notice it everyday here in Ireland, and it seems to be even more prevalent in the UK.
I can understand that this happens especially if a singular word can be substituted with "they".

The examples you posted are all correct.

My pet peeve is seeing, especially in the UK and Ireland, things like this:

"Centurion Black scores as Ulster go top of Pro12"

This is what I'm talking about. Go to RTE or BBC and you'll see headlines like this everyday. "Ce
