this car or that (one)

Regarding the following two sentences:

1. Which is more expensive, this car or that?
2. Which is more expensive, this car or that one?

I found Sentence 1 in a study guide recently. I think that Sentence 2 is quite normal, but that Sentence 2 sounds odd. What do you think?
