Oranges aren’t mentioned in the Bible, and the classical world only knew the citron.

The oranges Pepys “first saw” would have been the sweet oranges, which had long

been cultivated in China but weren’t brought west until the beginning of the seventeenth

century.

Bitter oranges, the ones we now callSevilleoranges, had come toEuropea long time

before this, probably brought by Arab traders.

In the above paragragh, I wonder what this refers to. Is it sweet orange?
