Third vs mixed conditionals

Hello,

1) If the artists and creative thinkers throughout the history of the world had not dared to be different, the history of civilization would have been rewritten.

2) If the artists and creative thinkers throughout the history of the world had not dared to be different, the history of civilization would have to be rewritten.

Do you think both are right here? What's the difference?

Thanks.
