Third conditional

I went to a restaurant nearby with one of my friends and that was the first time that I've ever been there. Plus their food was delicious. Therefore, today I wanted to talk about that if I had known about their products before the day I went there, I would have visited there before that day. The thing that I cannot understand is that how can we talk about a hypothetical situation in the past and imaginary results that would have happened before that conditional statement would have happened.

If I had known that, I would have / had gone there already.
