Hi GPY,

"If Ryan had stayed in his previous school he would not have gotten far in life."

Is it necessary to insert a comma after school?

It is not mandatory, but some authors might prefer it. Now you've mentioned, I probably prefer to include the comma.

I always tell students to use a comma there — as part of a more general punctuation rule that says we should set off all introductory subordinate clauses by a comma.
