Think of it

Why it hasn't used "what *do* you think of it?" I don't understand the structure. I would appreciate it if you could explain it to me.

"Do you like reading?" - John asked me if I liked reading.
"What do you think of it?" - John asked me what I thought of it.
"Is Mary married?" - John asked me if Mary was married.
