"Thingy" is used all the time to mean "that item, and I can't remember (or I don't know) it's name." It is a noun, because it is a thing. It's informal, but used very often.

And anon, that "thingy" on the keyboard, it sometimes has an arrow pointing up - there's one next to the z and one next to the / - that's called a shift key. We use to make capital letters. You might want to give it a

Seeing the context of the word would help, but I'll give it a try. This is a "made-up" word that probably doesn't exist in most dictionaries.
