Things fall apart proverbs

hey! im doing an english project and i have to interpret proverbs from Things Fall Apart (the book) so if you can help me out i would be so happy!

"A man danced so the drums were beaten for ."

"Let the kite perch and let the eagle perch too. If one says no to the other, let his wing break."

Those are not proverbs, and the first one does not make grammatical sense while the second one makes no semantic sense (at least I see none). Perhaps they are jokes?
