Thing, you know.

Sam: You seem to have a crush on Julie.
Kevin: No, I mean.... She's nice...pretty...cute... but it's just that "Hmm... She's nice." thing, you know. Nothing serious.

I think "thing" is the object of "know."
If so, I'd like to know here why the comma is positioned after "thing" and what "thing" means.
