Dear Experts

Please check the underlined phrase in the quote below :

Spelling is very important in formal writing, but English spelling is very difficult. They’re aren’t too many rules, and most of them can be broken.

" The writer used the wrong "there/their/they're" -- it happens more than you would think. When I type quickly, I've been known to type the wrong here/hear or there/their -- not because I don't know the difference, but my fingers type what they "hear" my brain say and they sound the same. Still, in an edited work, someone should have noticed this.

zillahThey’re aren’t
No one says they’re aren’t. The writer must have been a non-native or half asleep to make such a mistake.

But "There aren't" is a very normal thing to say.

The writer used the wrong form, "they're" instead of "there."

They’re sounds like error, though.

I thought the confusion was mainly between their and there. I guess some people don’t realize they’re is a contraction.

In my pronunciation, all three sound exactly the same. I can't guess which one would come flying off my keyboard when I'm going really quickly. However, it's the hardest of the three to type, so it's the one I'm least likely to do by accident, I think.

Or the writer was using a dictation program, and spell check didn't catch it because it it a word/contraction.

Then all I can say is "Oh dear."

Write back - "Surely, it should be 'there aren't' not 'they're aren't'?

It is hard for the publisher to admit that it is a mistake. That's why the reply is it is not an error.

It is hard for the publisher to admit that it is a mistake.
Hi Yoong
This is very obvious typo.
I won't say mistake because the publisher knows the difference.
