Vocabulary

They will be forgiven you.

Though I understand what "They will be forgiven you" mean, I still couldn't parse the sentence grammatically. This sentence is from the bible that means your sin will be forgiven if they forgive you. The sentence sounds somewhat weird.

Does the word "they" refer to the sinner or the sins the sinner has? Moreover the word you seems to be out of place. Why would one say or translate in this way?

This ditransitive form of "forgive" is rare and exceptional - only used in the King James Version and the Modern English Version of the Bible.

*** will forgive you your sins. (active). Most translations simply say "*** will forgive you."
Your sins (they) will be forgiven you by ***. (passive) Most translations simply say "Your sins will be forgiven."

Thanks a lot for the kindness to respond to my stupid question again.

I had thought to myself if I had to say in that way I would say "They will be forgiven of you" to sound better and be clearer. I don't know if that would be accepted as grammatically correct though.
