They supplied us with understanding?

Is it fine? Can I say "they gave us understanding" or "provided us with understanding"?

No. The closest I can think of is "They helped us understand", but I'd say something like these. They taught us.

No. The closest I can think of is "They helped us understand", but I'd say something like these.

They taught us. They instructed us. They explained it. We learned from them.

When I first read that, I thought you meant that they showed us understanding, that they understood us and were tolerant of us. "They gave us understanding" can mean that. "Provided" does not work. Perhaps, "They made us understand."

Note that we can say 'It's fine' in the meaning of 'It's OK, it works', but we can't ask if something is fine, and we don't normally say that something isn't fine. That's just one of the quirks of English.
