The following example is from my grammar book which was written in 1961.

They strove one against the other which could produce the most admirable music.


I was wondering how "which" clause could be used as an adverbial clause.

I don't recognise this as correct English. Through Google search I found one other similar construction in a very old book written in an almost Biblical style. Perhaps it is an archaic pattern.
