I have an easy question about the usage of expressions such as "They're so many..." referred to non-living things like photos and objects. I've always said this, but a friend of mine, who is also an English learned, told me that I should never use similar expressions, because "They" refers only to people or living matter.
Who is right?
If I see some pictures, is it correct to say: "They're so many" or also "They're so beautiful" ?
Your friend is wrong. 'They' can refer to both living and non-living. eg Look at those girls.

eg Look at those girls. They're beautiful.
eg Look at those mountains. They're beautiful.
However, they're / they are so many is not natural English. Say eg they're / there are so many.
