They have suspended campaigning.

They have suspended campaigning.

I know that verbs like start, begin, avoid, enjoy, etc are followed by -ing, gerund and I can see explanations of the usage in dictionaries but when I looked the word suspend in dictionaries, there is no explanation that the word is followed by -ing, gerund but I saw the sentence and then the sentence is not a correct sentence?

Or regardless of dictionaries's definition, suspend is also followed by -ing, gerund or the noun campaigning is considered as a noun, not a gerund?

What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual.

Hans51 there is no explanation that the word is followed by -ing, gerund but I saw the sentence and then the sentence is not a correct sentence? The sentence is fine. Any verb that takes a noun object can take a gerund object.
