They have not anything?

Please see the following sentences which are from one of Mrs Margaret Thatcher's speeches.

"I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left."

Should she say "....., it means they don't have a single political argument left"? Sometimes British says they have not anything,instead "they don't have anything"?
