"He [a stunt driver] never saw scripts; like a session musician, he worked from chord charts. He suspected the sequences wouldn't make a lot more sense to the audience if they ever stopped to think about them. But they had flash aplenty."

In this sentence, is the word "flash" referring to audiences? If so, does it mean kind of "boasting"? Thanks.

Are you sure you've copied this all correctly?
I don't think it refers to the audience but to the performers.

I can't imagine what it means for a stunt driver to work from chord charts.

It's puzzling to me.

Sorry I can't help you on "flash," nadan. The sentence seems awkward to me. Perhaps if I read the book I'd get used to the style.

Hey Nadan, sorry I know its too late for the answer. I wonder if you would have got the answer by now or if you will see my answer even. But I am reading this book currently and I got to it and guess what, I was also not able to figure out its meaning until I read it a thousand times for atleast half an hour and then searched on the net so very deeply and read 2 articles out of the context, coz I really don't like and freak out when I am not able to understand the meaning of anything in English in any book or anywhere.

So...as far as I could figure it out, it is quite simple and I think we both were too much thinking about it so we were not able to figure it out. "He never saw scripts; like a session musician, he worked from chord charts" - means, as you would know, that he didnt care about the whole story reading the scripts and all and as you know he wouldnt even watch the movie. So he was just working while reading about what simply and overall to the point he has to do.

"He suspected the sequences wouldn't make a lot more sense to the audience if they ever stopped to think about them. " - means that the script on whatever he was working on would not make any sense(as he thought it was not good and all) if was not overthought. If you think that you have a better explanation of it then please let me know.

And lastly the most puzzled one - "But they had flash aplenty." - It is not boasting but kinda that you can say as the author is specifying that they(he and his assistant) had been working like this from a long time and had much work. So it is referring to, that they have much of an experience and flash referring to that they kinda have a stardom{audience and flashlight(famous) in that} so not a big issue or deal... for him especially, as shown in the movie too.

So this was I guess satisfying in some aspect for you and btw I am still reading this book and actually had watched the movie first by which I fell in love with and then downloaded the book and now reading it...very excitedly. So far it is so difficult to read it and I thought that as it is of only 90-100 pages in pdf, I would be able to complete it in 2 or 3 days but I am taking way too long as the grammar and story is too complex for me and the writing by the author ... even I have watched the movie lol. But anyway, how did you felt the book was and any thoughts about the movie? Which was better, ofc. as usually people say the book is better but what do you think coz the movie was the besttt, as I felt... and there were very negative reviews about the book as I read on the internet.
