They had flash aplenty

"He [a stunt driver] never saw scripts; like a session musician, he worked from chord charts. He suspected the sequences wouldn't make a lot more sense to the audience if they ever stopped to think about them. But they had flash aplenty."

In this sentence, is the word "flash" referring to audiences? If so, does it mean kind of "boasting"? Thanks.

Are you sure you've copied this all correctly? I don't think it refers to the audience but to the performers. I can't imagine what it means for a stunt driver to work from chord charts.

The sentence is correct. It's from a novel by James Sallis - Drive.

An additional note about working from chord charts: He is executing his performance improvized, not sticking to the script.

Sorry I can't help you on "flash," nadan. The sentence seems awkward to me. Perhaps if I read the book I'd get used to the style.
