(They) do OR Passive Voice

Is it possible to use "they" in this sentence (and not only here) and if so, does it sound natural? And what is better to use - the construction "S + V" or Passive Voice?
(They) are doing their homework.
OR
Their homework is being done.
Instead of “they” there can be any pronoun, the essence remains the same.
