They didn't mean for her

They didn't mean for her to read the letter.

Could anyone rephrase the sentence to me? [Particularly the, "mean for her"]

They didn't intend her to read the letter. She wasn't expected to read the letter. (They had written something in the letter which they did not want her to know, and they did not realise that she would read the letter)
