Thankyou, so we cannot say "They gave us a chase by car" or "They chased us by car". Am I correct?

tufguyThankyou, so we cannot say "They gave us a chase by car" or "They chased us by car". Am I correct?
You can't say the first one at all. That's why I crossed it out above.
The second one is not wrong, but my intuition tells me that it's not used as much as "in a car".

Hi CJ,

Sorry to bother you again but can we also say "They chased us on elephant back"?

tufguycan we also say "They chased us on elephant back"?
No. They chased us on an elephant.

"horse" is the only animal for which we have the special term "horseback".
