Hi,
I read once in a forum that even though ‘we’re’ is often used instead of ‘we are’, ‘they’re’ should be avoided.
Is it true?
Thank you.
No, not at all. "we're" and "they're" have equal status. They are both common in everyday English, but unsuitable for formal writing.

No. That is incorrect.
"They are" - formal contexts.
"They're" - informal/colloquial contexts.
However, do note that you cannot use it (or any such similar contraction) on its own when answering a question.
For example,
- Are they really going to run the marathon?
- Yes, they're. [ Incorrect]
- Yes, they are. [ Correct]
