'They are leaving permanantly.'

Hi

Here is a paragraph in a textbook: Sasha and his family will get on a plane and fly to Canada. They won't be coming back. They're leaving permanently.

Could anyone tell me why the present continuous tense is used in the last sentence: "They are leaving permanently."

Why not present simple, or future simple?

Thank you
