They are given for/to online media

Celebrating excellence on the Internet, the Webby Awards have been called "the hightest Internet honor" by the New York Times. They are given for online media that are cleverly creative, promote care for the planet, or in other ways improve the world.

Hi,

Why is it "they are given for" in the above instead of 'they are given to?" Thanks.

I think the writer was confused: 'They were given to online media for being cleverly creative, etc.'

In my opinion, if I were a reader of this excerpt, I'd say - "they are given for online media" means they are taken as an example.

"He's given for a creative person who's brilliant, and whose work enthralls people"; I can see what the author is intending to mean, however, I'm not sure if that's perfectly grammatical.

He's given for a creative person-- This is not a phrase in AmE or BrE, karansardana. Is it accepted in Indian English?

Not sure, Mister; just thought of sharing my opinion on the same.
