WASHINGTON, Nov 28 (Reuters) - In a U.S. Congress packed with big egos, Tom Cole keeps a low profile but isn't afraid to speak his mind.
He did so on Wednesday, breaking ranks with Republicans by suggesting that they agree to President Barack Obama's plans to extend Bush-era tax rates on all but the wealthiest Americans.
For the purposes of this discussion 'wealthy Americans' are defined as those who have an income of more than $250,000 a year. Obama's proposal is to continue the (lower) tax rates of the Bush era for everybody except those who are wealthy. He further proposes that these tax rates expire in January, 2013 for wealthy Americans, thus raising their tax rates beginning in January.
