What does 'they' refer to in:
Most of the time, most people take their culture and its norms for granted. At times of conflict and change, however, people can become acutely aware of the divergence between norms. For example, the teenager may protest against his parents’ values. Or, only when a person migrates to another country may they become aware both of their own values and how very different they are from those of the new country.
