Can I say,

(a) These are many sweets (on my hands).
(b) Those are many presents on the table.
(c) These / Those are a lot of presents.
(d) These / Those are a lot of sweets.

I don't think these work, Vincent. Sometimes we use the demonstrative "that" very casually: Wow, that's a lot of presents! " I think "a lot of" is itself singular, although it can modify both countable and non-countable nouns.

I don't think these work, Vincent.

Sometimes we use the demonstrative "that" very casually: Wow, that's a lot of presents!

"That" modifies "lot," rather than "presents."

You could say, "These / Those are beautiful presents," where the demonstrative pronoun refers to the plural "presents."

I think "a lot of" is itself singular, although it can modify both
