These sentences puzzle me

I'm studying English. I saw like the following sentences.

#1 This coat was about half the price of a week before.

#2 This kite is only one third the weight of an ordinary kite.

Are these sentences natural?

I think 'this coat' is not the price but clothing, and 'this kite' is not the weight but object. So I feel these sentences unnatural.
