Thesaurustic ramblings ...

From time to time, our newspaper publishes the ramblings of a local 'letter-to-the-editor-writer.' This person expresses his displeasure with everything in our world, from city council meetings to world politics. Not a happy camper.

Is there a word which defines or describes a person who uses very long, uncommon words to express his or her ideas in such a complicated and negative fashion? Other than 'long-winded loser?' It's as if he consults Roget's to find every other word in these diatribes.

Top answer

2 words come to mind: Pompous and pretentious. Both have a negative sense and are used in when describing the person who communicates their disapproval of everything. The 'long-winded loser' description was also apt.
