There’s or there was

Why is it: I plan to move to NYC and was wondering if there’s/there was any bartender positions open at your club.

Which one is correct? Why is there’s most common?

balboa1 I plan to move to NYC and was wondering if there’s/there was there were any bartender positions open at your club.

As shown. 'there are' is also correct, but sounds less courteous in my opinion.
