There's a certain amount of comfort to be had in knowing

Hi

If I had written the sentence below I wouldn't have used the bold part "to be had". It doesn't make sense to me. The sentence makes perfect sense to me without it. Please help me with it.

There's a certain amount of comfort to be had in knowing that even one of the coolest guys on the planet was a dweeb in middle school.
