Thereby me having...

Hi everyone,

I need some help using "thereby" in a sentence, but I just haven't been able to find information about the proper way to phrase this: I didn't finish my essay yesterday, thereby me having to finish it today. Can anyone tell me if my sentence is correct, and/or if there's a better way to phrase it?
