There Were Vs There Was

I read the following on the Internet: "Today's round was marked more by near misses than actual wins, of which there were only one."

Shouldn't it be "there was", considering "were" is referring to the one single win, and, since that's the case, the plural "were" is incorrect. Or am I somehow mistaken?
