There was terror in the lion's eyes.

Hi

Could the following sentence mean (even roughly) that the lion's eyes were inspiring terror in the dark.

There was terror in the eyes of the lion and for a moment John was glued to his place.

Thanks,

Tom

No. The lion was terrified for some reason. For the sentence to have your inference, it would have to be something like this: There was terror reflected in the eyes of the lion and for a moment John was glued to his place.

What about this one? Is it natural?

The lion's eyes were inspiring great terror and John found himself glued to his place.

No. Terror is not something that is evoked by inspiration.
