There On or Thereon?

Hi,

I have a sentence which goes a little like:

.....and I opened all the others that came through from there on in?

Is that correct, or should it be 'thereon in'? I did read that thereon is archaic so probably doesn't get used anymore.

Or should I actually be putting 'then on in'?

Top answer

ryansamturner I opened all the others that came through from there on. from there on. ~ from that point in time forward.

  • ryansamturner I opened all the others that came through from there on.
  • from there on.
  • ~ from that point in time forward.
  • I don't know why you added "in", but you don't need it.

Thank you.

While I have you, can I ask another thing.

If I were to say:

'he shouted the words straight into my eardrum and they rattled throughout my brain.' Would that make sense to you?
Or should I just say 'rattled around' instead?

Thank you so much.

throughout isn't so bad. around is OK. I would say just through, not throughout.

"(from) there on in" is a familiar informal expression to me. Perhaps it is BrE only. "from thereon in" looks wrong.
