Please, which one is correct?

1. There is a hard-working man, a hard-working woman, and a hard-working child.

Or,

2.There are a hard-working man, a hard-working woman, and a hard-working child.

Examples are just for illustration; I'm interested in 'a, adj, N ' structure.
