There is some left

There is some left at the back.

Some here mean some copies of the handout used in classroom.

I don't know why be-verb is not are but 'is' in the sentence.

ex) There are three books on the table.

There is a book on the table.

Doesn't 'some' imply more than 1? So the verb should be are?

You mean 'is' should be are but when 'there is' is contracted to there's ,'s' often refers to are; because there're is longer than there's ? -.-;;
